As an outsourced Human Resources (HR) Director for people across a fabulously diverse range of businesses, firms and consultancies in an equally diverse spread of industries: anything from law firms to allied health practices, accountants to business consultants, I provide my extensive expertise and skillset for people to build thriving businesses where their people feel valued. These are businesses where they may not necessarily have need of or capacity for an in-house HR Director but know the foundations of their people and culture would benefit from a set of highly experienced eyes and that the ‘people part’ of their business, although perhaps neglected, is important.
Look, there are a myriad of reasons why people reach out to me for my outsourced HR Director support. Sometimes they’ve just become aware of a compliance issue. Other people know that their human resources function is hanging on by a fingernail and a smidge of sticky tape.
Others have a very clear vision for their business and know they need some support with talent management to develop the right mix of talent to get them there.
Put simply, I’m all about making great people practices (aka HR!) accessible to people, working with me in a partnership approach.
Partnership is the key word here, as I don’t offer cookie-cutter HR services but rather a bespoke, solutions-based approach.
We start with a health check, and from there I come in to:
● Suggest outcomes to match your business goals
● Provide solutions that are evidence-based, relevant and practical; and
● Educate on the go through timely responses and transparent and open feedback so people are informed and able to make strategic decisions.
My clients:
● Tell me everything I need to know, the good, the bad and the you-know-what about their business, people and existing employment practices
● Follow through on their commitments; and
● Prioritise our work together so we can be super-efficient with putting into place actions to address issues.
In practice, this could mean a whole myriad of activities.
In any given workplace we could explore:
● DiSC workshops and communication skills to build functioning teams
● Understanding values
● Onboarding and employee experience
● HR foundations (performance management, compliance training, policies and procedures, employee handbook, org structures etc)
● Talent management
● Success building; and
● Strategic growth
Of course, these are just a handful of examples.
I’ve been in the Human Resources (HR) game for 25+ years, and so have a pretty decent slab of knowledge behind me:
● HR Compliance
● HR & Succession Planning
● Organisation Structure Design – Roles and Responsibilities
● Organisational Values
● Career Pathways
● Workforce Planning
● Employee Experience
● Employment Contracts
● Employee Handbook
● Performance Management
● Induction and Onboarding
● Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)
● Award/Industrial Relations classifications and interpretation
● Leadership, Coaching and Professional Development
● Change Management
● Employee Retention
● Restructuring and Redundancy
● Talent Management
● Remuneration and Employee Benefits
● Exit Interviews
● Culture and Employee Opinion Surveys
● 360 Feedback
In terms of the way I work, other than some problem-focused workshops or projects where I come in as a once-off and then waltz off into the distance, they’re all relatively long term. After all, issues don’t *usually* happen over night and so overhauling or creating human resource foundations takes time. This is why I work within a retainer model – this is how I really get to know a business, its people, what makes them tick, where their roadblocks are and where the possibilities could be brought to life.
That said, retainer isn’t the only way! Sometimes, I’m brought on board against a specific challenge or for a project, and then after we’ve solved a problem or brought a project over the line, off I trot into the sunset, until the next time. My work is collaborative, based on the very best of contemporary people and culture knowledge, and I absolutely love it!
My work is tailored to the needs of the business I’m working with, and so the best way for us to see how I could be of support in your business, to be your outsourced HR Director is to have a call. You can book this here.
